The Village of Harrison has recently brought in a new smoke control bylaw which severely limits wood-burning campfires. Each campground is now limited to only one, communal, campfire for all the guests instead of individual campfires on each campsite as we had before. This communal fire exists under a set of rules as follows:

It can only be burning between 5pm and 10pm.
There must be a minimum wind velocity of 5 MPH at 5 pm.
The only wood which can be burned in the fire is that supplied by the campground operator.
The fire must be in the Village-approved location which is near the Teepee.

If you would like to debate these regulations which have been opposed by all Harrison campgrounds, please call the three Harrison Councillors who voted for it. They are Patsy Graham, Leo Facio and Wil Watchorn. The Village phone number is 604-796-2171.

Sasquatch Springs has been granted a campfire permit to have this single fire under these rules. Any violation could result in the resort losing this permit. In order to preserve the ability to have this one fire, the resort must comply with the bylaw. Please do not attempt to burn your own wood or light the fire before 5pm or after 10pm as we will have no choice but to take appropriate action.

Gas fires are OK anytime. For your comfort and convenience, we have installed a propane campfire in the Teepee. You may use this at any time and it is fine for marshmallow or weiner roasting. It is also possible to sit around this fire when it is raining or windy and stay dry and warm. The fire should be lit and supervised by an adult.

Many of our guests have purchased their own propane campfires and we usually have some for sale at the office. They are around $200.
